You Cannot Multiply Wealth by Dividing it
By InMyOpinion on Oct 17, 2010 | In A Musings, Interesting Emails, The Nation
Another in our series of emails I have received from others. I liked this one because it is really so simple to understand I think even liberals might be able to. I have omitted some superfluous content.
As the late Adrian Rogers said, "you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
This man is truly a genius! An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.
Remember, there is a test coming up. The mid-term election in 2010!
Pass along this lesson to your children, your friends and your colleagues. This message transcends party affiliation - it's just simple human nature.

Walmart vs US Government - You Decide
By InMyOpinion on Aug 19, 2010 | In Welcome, A Musings, Interesting Emails
At a time when citizen confidence in government is at an all time low and private enterprise and capitalism are under constant attack by an administration bent on taking over the operation of increasingly larger portions of the economy, It seems appropriate to do a little comparison. While we do not condone some of Walmart's "Chicago Style" tactics to enhance their bottom line, no one can argue with their success. The following email was received today...
1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart Every hour of every day.
2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!
3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.
4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.
5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world's largest private employer, and most speak English.
6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.
7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only fifteen years.
8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.
9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.
10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.
11. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.
You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy. This should be read and understood by all Americans Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!! In contrast, compare what our government has accomplished:
a. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.
b. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke.
c. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.
d. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.
e. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.
f. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.
g. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every "government service" you have managed while overspending our tax dollars.
Seems like it's time to give unfettered capitalism and entrepreneurism free reign in this country. Any more government control and bureaucracy and we'll be back in the economic dark ages again.

H1N1 Paranoid or Flu Prepared ? You Decide
By InMyOpinion on Nov 16, 2009 | In A Musings, Health and Wellness, The Nation
I admit it, I am officially paranoid - I have bought into all of this hype concerning the seasonal flu and H1N1 virus. Well why shouldn't I be? Flu shots are notoriously difficult to come by and as an asthma sufferer I am at a higher risk for complications should either virus choose me as it's host. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean something isn't out to get me. Figuring diplomacy is unlikely to work against this enemy combatant, deterance seems the only viable strategy hence my mantra - the only good offense is a strong defense.
Tweeting to Myself - Sharing the Moment of Creativity
By InMyOpinion on Jun 1, 2009 | In A Musings
Tweets, media sound bite summaries of important topics and instant solutions to age old problems and are certainly a product of our current "information assault" culture but shouldn't they serve only as an information index of topics to whet ones appetite and filter subject matter for future research or debate? Relying on internet headlines as ones complete information resource results in overlooking valuable facts and substance necessary to being well informed. Has the world become so shallow?
